An Unexpected Gift

I've been sworn to secrecy on this one. Not allowed to tell a soul. But I sort of needed to post this semi-cryptic picture, and let the person responsible for this particular smile in on the moment.

And here's what else I need to say. I am touched. In a big way.

So often, we rely on Acts of God to reinforce that little, tiny, mostly-quiet gut feeling that we're not totally in this alone. That we are connected to something bigger than ourselves, and that when our thread feels bare, we don't need to worry that the entire tapestry will unravel just because, at the moment, we can't seem to hold it together on our own. When I start seeking miracles and dream of a mighty hand of intervention to pick out my troubles the way I pick blades of grass out of my son's mop of sweaty hair on a sunny afternoon, I know I am putting a lot of stock in The Believing. And you know? That's mostly enough for me.

And then I am floored, because it wasn't a booming voice coming from the clouds, and it wasn't a bolt of lightning, or a spirit animal, or even a disembodied and mysteriously well-timed Wind of Change. It was a human soul, capable of love and friendship and acting out of the desire to make a difference in a person's life. Because she was touched by something beautiful, she made something even more beautiful. And it continues, with gathering strength.

And that's how we keep it together, and how we know we're never alone.

Much Love and Thanks J. "T.M." Claus.
