'On the sixth day of Christmas' or 'No Yolk, I'm Eggstatic'

I was sitting here in my kitchen thinking, "What am I going to do for food tomorrow?"  I used the last can of mandarin oranges today, and we're low on bread (not enough for two sandwiches), and there's cereal, but not a lot of milk, and anyway, I was just thinking, "What could I make that doesn't require that Eric make a run to the grocery store tonight, because he looks dog tired?"  So, without thinking too hard about it, I decided that Lennon could have cereal for breakfast, and I'll just have a cup of froot loops without the milk, and then for lunch, she could have the peanut butter and jelly, and I'll grate some cheese over chips.  Voila!  The culinary schools should be banging down my door any day now.  Seriously though, it's 8pm, and there is no way I'm handing Eric a grocery list.  I think to myself, "We'll manage."

So, like I said, I'm sitting in the kitchen, just reading some Facebook messages, and the doorbell rings, and I think, "Shoot" because I'm in my pajamas (and no I didn't just change into them...  truth?  I've been wearing these since 9pm last night), but I get up and answer it anyway, because, you know, like I said, culinary schools, and sitting on the doormat is another gift for the Twelve Days of Christmas.  Six Geese a Layin'.  And there at my front door is a carton of six fresh eggs.

EGGS!!  Six of the most beautiful eggs I've ever seen.  And I can't even begin to tell you how thankful I am for those eggs.  Those six, white, round, smooth, lovely, egg-filled EGGS!  I feel like I'm going to FEAST tomorrow.  I can make blueberry muffins for breakfast, or pancakes, or scrambled eggs, or freakin' QUICHE if I wanted to, because now I have SIX WHOLE EGGS!  It's like the egg lottery!!  Like the egg gods have smiled upon me in all their yolky glory.  Like I've been visited by the Egg Fairy, who I imagine looks an awful lot like just a giant hen, but with much more glitter on her wings.  I have EGGS!!

I just want to dance around singing, "I've got EGGS! And I know how to use them..." (yes, that's ZZ Top, mildly altered for my purposes)  or "I love eggs, from my head down to my legs" (the egg commercial from my childhood) or this song:

Seriously guys.  Eggs are so awesome.  And so are my neighbors.  And so is Christmas.  Christmas is awesome.  Everyone and everything is awesome, thanks to eggs.

Please note: No, you cannot just buy me eggs for Christmas this year. I'm easily pleased, not stupid.

Aren't eggs the best! I've really been on an egg kick lately. Sometimes for breakfast on the weekends I'll do hashbrowns with some melted cheese on top with an egg on top and some hot sauce... YUMMM, Or the other night I was having a food crisis similar to yours and I made egg and bean burritos. Simple and good. and cheap! Hooray for eggs

I think it's nice how simply you're living--and that eggs can be such a golden gift. Yesterday in the middle of a snowstorm we ran out of gorgonzola cheese and I walked 2 miles in the snow for it because I HAD to have gorgonzola RIGHT THEN. If someone had brought me some eggs I probably would have stomped on them and yelled, "That's NOT what I WANT!!"

Yeah eggs! Despite my previous doubt about egg salad sandwhiches, I have been adoring them lately. Eggs eggs the magical protein the more eat you the more you... I don't know how to finish this.

Don't diss your culinary skills... this week on Top Chef, one of the cheftestants actually made deviled eggs for her dish at a fancy banquet. Did the fact that she made deviled eggs get criticized by hot judge Tom? Yes. But luckily you're not trying to impress foodie judges and the dishes you talked about all sound delicious, nutritious, and they're crowd pleasers.

Just incase you're unsure. I WANT you to come to the thingie we're having the day after x-mas. I even left you a comment on your blog a while ago asking for your email address so I could send you an evite. I hope you can make it and feel free to bring the kiddos. There will be kids there. I WANT you to come! Seriously, seriously.

I finally watched that egg video. WOW! I have no words. That was awesome. Why don't they do a shout out to the brown eggs though? Why only white eggs? Rasists!
