Seriously

So glad I caught President Obama's education speech this morning.

I'm a stay-at-home mom, and sometimes I joke that my bachelor's degree in British Literature (with a minor in Media Arts... ), is absolutely pointless.  I just want to clear this up right now.  I am 100% not serious about that.  I may not USE the degree in my day-to-day life, but I wouldn't trade those years of learning for a winning lottery ticket.  I have discovered so much about myself, and what I want to be, and what I want from others, and what I can expect from others, and those things are invaluable.  I also received encouragement to succeed, from professors who saw talent, and every time I deny myself the opportunity to create, I feel like I'm letting those people down.  It's good to be accountable to someone for whom you respect and want to thank.

I'm going to stop saying my degree is pointless, especially when Lennon and Harrison are within earshot.  It's not even a funny thing to say.  And I am probably do harm to those two little kids who are someday going to have to ask themselves if their own education is worth pursuing.

It is, little ones.  It doesn't matter where you end up in life, you will never regret learning.

So true. I can't imagine living to regret learning something! It's a good bet.

Hi! Happy belated Beatles Day.

I feel/felt the same way. I'm glad I caught the speech as well, and as a fellow, "my degree is worthless" statement maker- I will never say that again. My bachelor's is in Art History, but you're right... The experience of college, the courses I took, the professors that mentored, the people I met, shaped who I am today. I enjoyed EVERY second of college and for that, I am thankful. Thank you for putting something I often neglect into a tangible feeling, that I too, need to express to others.
