This morning I woke up and realized I didn't have a costume for H-. Sure, I guess I could have put the little guy in a superman shirt and cape, but I didn't have any bottoms that would go with it, so I wasn't too excited about it. I guess I also could have put him in overalls and called him a farmer, but I wasn't feeling it. And besides, L- was going as Dorothy again this year, and I kind of wanted a theme (even though nobody got to see them together, but that's a different story).
So I says to myself, I says, "Self? You have no money, no car, and no time. You are going to have to pull this one out of an unmentionable place. Meanwhile, you'll be watching two babies and two four-year-olds, trying to pack for another four-day-trip, and your sewing machine is in storage. Think you're up for it?"
And I said, "Bring it." Which made me feel alive.
I now present one of the most amazingly cute (no-sew) scarecrows from The Wizard of Oz, thrown together in under ten minutes. I suppose that if I had more time, I would have gotten a green shirt instead of a blue one, and maybe made some boots or at least bought some black socks, but seriously guys, I think this is one of my shining moments.
Come on now. That hat was made from a pant leg. For not spending a dime on this thing, I think I did pretty well.
Also, I got some priceless video of H- falling down, and L-, in her Dorothy costume, trying to hold him up. If that's not the cutest thing you've heard today, then I don't care, because it's damn well the cutest thing I've heard all week.
Please pretend you care, because this is the most accomplished I've felt in over seven months. Also, feel free to toot your own Halloween Costume Horn in the comments

Way too effing cute. I had two weeks and with one piece of chocolate Bradley ended up looking like the third-world (or is it developing...oh so un-pc of me)counterpart of his intended costume. I could tell people were wondering if he was a street urchin--intended or not.
If I'm truly honest with myself, H- looked a little hobo-ey as well, but I'm not going to let that bother me.
You need to be proud of the intent, Keiko. Also, Bradley could wear a paper sack and be adorable, so bonus points there.

I'm jealous. I love everything about Halloween except costumes. I can't think of ideas; can't execute them; can't blog about them. You've got it all, Renee!
Adorable! How did you think to use a pant leg for the hat? Seriously! Also, you have raffia just lying around the house? Crafty! They are so cute, dang I wish I was home last night for trick or treating!
I envy your craftiness. I had to have my sister make my kids costumes as usual and she even had to alter Brady's the day before as he grew in a week and no longer fit in his Superman Suit.
