Easy

Funny how kids are way more resilient than moms think they'll be. We explained to Lennon that the unicorn thing just wouldn't work out this year. Eric offered to take her to the toy store, so she could find something very specific to ask for from Santa. This was met with great enthusiasm, and an unexpected amount of understanding.

She picked out a $5 husky dog. Done. We went to the mall to explain to Santa the change in plans. Not even a little bit of disappointment. She's just excited to get a new stuffed animal. Even Santa was impressed.

Eric and I still can't believe how easy that was. We also aren't sure it's real. We keep thinking we got away with something. Somehow, we raised a really good kid, who doesn't need much more than a little evidence of magic, and something green on which to hang her homemade ornaments. It's all very Tiny Tim, and it makes me kind of weepy.

Thanks to those of you who kept your eyes out for the most impossible to find pink unicorn ever. Consider yourself my favorite. Also, consider yourself off the hook. There's at least one blonde-headed cutie getting exactly what she wants for Christmas this year. Turns out, all she wants is Christmas.

Oh my that is so very sweet. I somehow missed the search for the pink unicorn but sounds like it is all working out. Indeed, Christmas. Merry Christmas!

Lennon is so sweet and I think you nailed it when you said all she wants for Christmas is Christmas. I think this is true of most kids, and we adults put tons of pressure on ourselves to make fantastical things happen. I know my mom went nuts every year trying to make sure we had a good Christmas and always felt like she fell flat of that goal. All I remember is loving Christmas and never feeling disappointed or caring that my friends might have received more presents. All that mattered to me was OUR Christmas, frenzied Christmas Eve visits to all of aunts and uncles houses, talking to Heather about how we were going to attack our piles in the morning (stockings first!), and later taking 1 toy to Grandma O.'s to play with my cousins all day. That's what Christmas was to me and it's what I wanted to experience each year. I imagine Lennon feels a similar way about this special day.

Damn it, someone needs to write a Christmas song about her. I love the last line of your post...it could be the chorus...
